Ronald's Story
Life
Single for the last 15 years after 19 years of marriage, working for an architect in Anchorage, Alaska. Still taking college classes because I'm old enough I can take them tuition free. I usually take one class a semester, even for credit. I took up sea kayaking three years ago and love it. When I turned 65 I took a coming of age trip paddling alone from Valdez to Cordova. It took me 10 days but it was great. This spring I hope to paddle from Sitka to Juneau. I spent 9 years driving a shuttle bus to Wonder Lake in Denali National Park. I wanted to be a teacher but did not get hired here so gave up. Have had a zillion jobs covering pretty much the whole state so have had an interesting life. Had a plane and flew without a license for 4 years when I lived with my wife in a 14'x18' log cabin in the middle of the Alaska Range 90 miles south of Fairbanks. furniture store and a restaurant in Fairbanks. 4 kids, the first two adopted. One Inupiat and the other Yupik eskimo. The other two are biological kids. I have 5 grand children and another due in two weeks. Have trouble hearing clearly so say "huh?" alot. Other than an irregular heart beat sometimes, I feel great. Have not been to Gig Harbor for 4 years. I thought about moving back outside, but when I got there the traffic was too much. It is bad enough in Anchorage. Alaska has a pretty good grip on me and I stay active. I can put my crosscountry skiis on at the front door and in five minutes am down on the cities coastal trail with set tracks. Up here you can be skiing along and get passed by runners, and bikers. Anumber of the trails are lit here so you can ski at all hours. I love it. Hoping to hear about a class reunion in 2008, our 50th. Wow, I can hardly believe it.
