Rick's Story

Hi Everyone, Let me apologize in advance for the length of this little update, but since I only do it once every 10 years or so, it was hard to stop typing. Feel free to click off if it gets too boring! So, here goes ... As some of you know, I only attended Kennett for two years, having grown up in Sudbury, MA. As you can imagine changing schools in your Junior year can often be difficult, especially coming from a relatively urban area to the North Country of New Hampshire. But as a result of my family's move to Bartlett, NH in 1961, I guess I was one of the lucky ones. Fortunately, my Junior and Senior years at Kennett High School were two extremely memorable years for me. I guess for many who went to Kennett back in the 60's, you may share the same sentiment. You see it was there I met a Coach named Karl Seidenstucker (Crush), as everyone called him, and a Guidance Counselor named George Davidson (Dave), who along with other coaches like Lou D'Allesandro and Don Trimble helped me in so many ways for which I will always be eternally grateful. Those of you who knew them, know what I mean. I am sure we can also remember teachers like Bob Fisher, Gordan Mann, Wanda Pinnette, Hollis Robbins, Dick Stevens, Charlie Broomhall and many more who all affected our lives in so many ways. For those of us who played sports, we will never forget the talents and dedication of the coaches that inspired us and to whom we will always be eternally grateful for the lessons they taught us and the values that they help to instill in our lives. On a personal note, I have been blessed with a successful career, a wonderful family, a wonderful partner and a fulfilling life with many fond memories ... the least of which are from my high school years with some of you who may be reading this little journey down memory lane. For the friendships that I was fortunate to have, the teachers and coaches who devoted their careers to helping us all to be a better person, and the many wonderful experiences shared with both classmates and teachers alike, I will always be eternally grateful. Professionally, after spending much of my corporate career in healthcare ending as an owner and CEO of a large private corporation, I began my own consulting company, back in the late 1980's, from which I finally retired from in 2020. During that time I was fortunate to have published upward to 200 articles on healthcare, business and personal g...Expand for more
rowth and to conducted numerous seminars and workshops for business organizations across the country and in Canada. If you get a chance, Yahoo search Rick Doherty and you'll find some of my websites and a picture or two ... amazing how the years have passed. I guess we all have our memories. Finally, as I approach 75 years old, like many of you I suspect, life starts to catch up with you and the days of running round the bases or running down the corridor to class on time are nothing more than distant memories as aches and pains and doctor's visits become more frequent with each passing year. For me, this past year has been really difficult as I suffered another heart attack, in which the hospitalization also discovered rather serious lymph node cancer under my left arm and a loss of 75% of one kidney ... all within 30 days ... lots of fun and games. However, with some of the best care "Medicare" can buy and a great physician team from a leading Santa Monic Hospital Cancer Trail Program, I seem to be on the mend with the cancer in remission and multiple stents keeping the old pumper pumping. Fortunately, with such blessings and lots of support, it hasn't been too difficult to stay positive. Besides, I remember lots of basketball and baseball games, coming from behind in the fourth quarter of the ninth inning to stay win the game. Those memories have helped! So, looking forward, Arnold, my husband of 17 years and I decided to buy a small resort right on the beach in the town of San Fabian, in the Philippines. Quite an adventure, to say the least. Arnold is Filipino and his entire family lives in a city close to the resort, with his sister, her husband and three sons all practicing physicians in the area as well. So with my own personal medical staff and a cost of living that allows for a great quality of life ... why not! Besides, It will be a great place for me to continue to sip some wine and write (Books and Website Projects), while Arnold and his brother run the resort. So, we are on our way as soon as this damn Covid Pandemic runs out of gas over there ... hopefully the early part of next year. Well, so much for a trip down memory lane with a peek into the future from this old classmate from good old Kennett High School. I hope you all are well. All the Best, Rick
