Richard's Story
Life
After leaving Carmelite Jr. Sem, I finished High School at Bishop Bradley HS in Manchester NH. Went on to St. Anselm's college for a year in Pre-med and then to University of NH for a year as undeclared. Worked full time and commuted to college and so spent too much time at work and riding and not enough at classes. Ended up suspended and with Vietnam raging, I joined the Navy to avoid going to Vietnam.
Wrong decision. After a couple of years of training and then duty in Coronado, CA, I ended up with duty on a traveling hotel and maintenance barge in the Mekong Delta supporting two River Patrol Units. No dangerous duty for me, but definitely for the guys that we supported.
After Vietnam, came back to home and returned to school on the GI bill and did much better with my grades and so eventually graduated. Another very interesting time as a retunring veteran with most of my friends being kids who not only didn't believe in the war, but didn't believe in many of the values that had been important to me before I went to NAM.
Around this time, I met my wife and after a year we married and after another year we had a child. I worked selling insurance for a while and then in 1979 I got hired by IBM, and have been happy...Expand for more
with that company since then - despite the many ups and downs.
In 1982 we had a surprise second child who I am convinced was God's gift to us to allow us to remain stable during our crazy years. We went through some pretty interesting hard spots, but as I said, we sort of feel that Chris was the glue that sometimes kepts us together until we got the will to stay together on our own.
We lived in Atlanta GA for about 10 years and I loved it there. However, when my daughter had our first grandchild, we ended up moving back to NH to be near the grandchildren, but then as things worked out we ended up living with my daughter and her husband and the grandchildren. My wife takes care of the kids while my daughter works and my wife workd when the kids are in daycare.

We lost my son in law on 4/13/2004 from pancreatitis. He was at work on Good Friday and was dead by Tuesday after Easter. Had no idea that he was so sick and so it was a complete surprise and total tragedy.
We still live with my daughter and attempt to provide as much support as possible.
The grand children help us all when things are the toughest.
We now have two grandkids and my son has moved to NH and may be going to college on his own soon.
