Paul's Story

After high school, got a political science undergraduate degree from Purdue University. Then, still not quite with it, worked in landscaping for the next 5 years, the last 3-1/2 in Seattle. While living in Seattle, i worked for the Boeing Company for almost 5 years and met and married my wife - in 1980.. For economic reasons, my wife and i moved to Tucson, AZ where i got 2 masters degrees (MBA and MS-Management Information Systems) and my wife ended up getting a Ph.D in business (Management Information Systems) and is now a professor at the Harvard Business School (teaching executive programs for entrepreneurs) - so we ended up in Boston. We owned a house there from 1987-2013. We had a son in 1990. He ended up doing lots of athletics stuff and chose to go to the University of Puget Sound (UPS) in Tacoma, Washington - where he played soccer as their #1 goalie. Despite the team never making the NCAA Division III post-season tournament, he is in the NCAA Division III record book tied for 6th all-time in career shutouts. He got a call to try out for the Chivas USA MLS professional soccer team but, before that could take place, Chivas was put into receivership and, within a year, disbanded. He is a medical resident at Brown University in Providence, RI, in Orthopedic Surgery. after getting his medical degree from the University of Washington in Seattle. He graduates from the residency program at the end of June 2023, then has another year at Brown as a fellowship in Orthopedic Trauma. That will be followed by a year in Utah in another fellowship in Spine Surgery. My wife and i bought a house in Tacoma so we could watch his soccer games while ...Expand for more
he was at UPS. I now live mostly in Tacoma while my wife still works and lives in Boston, where she now lives in an apartment in downtown Boston. We fly back and forth often. (especially me), When my wife and i got to Boston, i did government consulting for Unisys for five years before i retired to be a stay-at-home dad for my son. As part of that role, i was the vice-president and then president of the parents association at my son's school and also ended up coaching my son's baseball and/or soccer teams from about age 7 through 18. It has been a great ride for me so far. I have done more than my share of traveling. I have been to many countries in Europe (England [5X], Belgium [2X], Netherlands [2X], Germany [3X, including East Germany when it was part of the Soviet bloc], Austria, Switzerland, Italy [2X], Spain, Monaco, Portugal [the Azores], France [2X]), Norway, Denmark, Sweden, Finland, Russia, Estonia, Poland, Iceland, Ireland, Northern Ireland, Wales, Scotland), Malta, Peru, Costa Rica, Singapore, Malaysia, Japan, Australia [2X], New Zealand, Brazil [2X], United Arab Emirates (Abu Dhabi and Dubai), India, and China. I have been to all the Canadian provinces from Quebec west to British Columbia and all 50 states of the US. I have taken up photography and hiking in the past few years. I have been an avid gardener my entire adult life and am also somewhat of a foodie. I walk (a lot) and have been a Fitbit device wearer since October of 2014, having accumulated over 45 million steps and 22,000 miles since then (so far - as of May, 2023). I still think about most of the people i knew (even acquaintances) from my time in Webster Groves.
