Mark's Story
As a USAF brat at McGuire AFB in Wrightstown, New Jersey, I only attended NBCRJS HS for the second half of 8th grade (Spring 1970), but I include Class of 74 there as I have fond memories of that short time.
Same with Folsom High Class of 74, freshman year only 1970 - 71, in Folsom, California. But also good memories.
The longest I ever went to school anywhere growing up was of course Cordova High, in Rancho Cordova, California: 1971 - 74. Many great memories as a member of the Class of 74.
After graduation from the US Coast Guard Academy in New London, Connecticut, in 1978, I went to sea as an engineer on a cutter out of Alameda, California. I eventually ended up in the merchant marine regulatory arm of the Coast Guard. My last station was in Valdez, Alaska. In 1986, I left the Coast Guard and went to work for Alyeska Pipeline Service Company at the marine terminal in Valdez. (Yes, I was there in 1989 on the night the Exxon V...Expand for more
aldez ran aground, and for many a long day and night thereafter.) In 1992, my family moved to northwest Washington and I worked the start-up of a cogeneration power plant in Ferndale, Washington. In 1996, I returned to Alyeska Pipeline, and worked there in various capacities until I retired, in January 2023.
I am very proud of my three amazing children; Miles, Emily and Rose. Miles and Emily have blessed me with one grandson each; Luke and Noah. I also have a wonderful grandson Tanner, who came with son-in-law BJ, and three lovely granddaughters, Zella, Cadence & Claire, who came with daughter-in-law Sarah. Daughter Rose, and son-in-law Daniel also blessed me with a grandchild, Sparrow, in 2020.
In March, 2020, I began a wonderful new story with my marriage to Wanda, an amazing widow from my church in Coos Bay. We reside happily there, enjoying cruises, camping, boating, home projects and family and the beautiful Oregon coast.
