Jerel's Story
Jerel is from Fort Worth, Texas. He is married. His schools include Haltom High School where he enjoyed playing football and running track, as well as branching out into involvement in theater, dancing in Pajama Game and Calamity Jane. He states this really took him out of his comfort zone but laid the ground work for playing Mr Upson in Auntie Mame later in life (Thank you Dorthy Mize, Linda M and Sally N). He later attended Stephen F. Austin State University (Bachelor of Science in Political Science, Earth Science), Webster University (Masters in Business Management, University of North Dakota (Airport Management, Air Transportation). Served in U.S. Army for 27 years as a Infantry and Aviation Officer. During this time he took great pride in serving in many front line units from 82d Airborne, 25th Infantry, 1st Cavalry Division (serving as a company commander), 101st Airborne (Air Assault) working as an operations officer and Executive Officer in Desert Storm, and the 1st Armored Division, serving as a helicopter Battalion Commander. hed his career as it began serving as the Commander for the ROTC unit at the University of North Dakota before retiring as a Lieutenant Colonel. After retirement, he worked in Airport Management at Will Rogers World Airport for 5 years.He then switched career choices and started developing instrument flight procedures (road maps for airplanes) and managed a contract for the Chickasaw Nations Industries for six years in support of the FAA. He is still in Oklahoma City, currently working for Pragmatics, Inc providing helicopter expertise in support of the Flight Standards Branch of the FAA.He has one son Johnathan with Melba Withers (Class of '71) and two wonderful grandsons, Jacob and Conner. He has four step-children with his wife, Amber, Matt,Amy, Katelyn and Tessa. The last two helped raise for nine years. With Amber they have nine grandchildren with one more on the way. Lastly and in his mind, most importantly, Jerel indicates he has traded in his Army uniform and put on the full armor of God, seeking to serve the Lord in all the ways he can.
