For Jon, the activities that constitute “inner work” are as real and as important as any outer effort (e.g., cigarette smoking, diet, exercise, medical testing or treatment, physical therapy, and weight management) or task-activities like journal writing, reflective reading, time spent in nature, spiritual friendship, loving kindness meditation or in serving others.
