Elma Lee's Story
Life
I have lived in a number of places around the US since leaving Barberton. However, I enjoy living in Ohio and have returned here even though not to Barberton. I try to get there at least once a year and MUST have THE Barberton chicken and sauce. Yes, people outside of Barberton have heard of my hometown because of the ÃÂChicken Houses.ÃÂ At first I thought people meant something else but they really meant the chicken restaurants.
I retired from my position as Dean of the School of Community Education at Wittenberg University as of June 30, 2012. My new title is Dean Emeritus. ell as a BA, MA, MS, and PhD. I have gone a lot further educationally than I ever thought possible. It confirms what I always thought - we did obtain a good basic education in Barberton despite it being a factory worker town.
In 2010, I published through Arcadia Press a book entitled âÂÂOhioâÂÂs Covered Bridges.â It is a book of vintage post cards. I am currently working on another project âÂÂOhioâÂÂs Opera Houses in Vintage Post Cards.â And yes, Barberton did have an Opera House! I hope to have the book published next year.
I still love theatre. I have been in community theatre productions in the past and hope to continue soon now that I am retired. I love to play the piano and sing. I am content though now just travelling and enjoying life with friends and family.
Life is good.
