David's Story
I was on a slow boat to China, and actually was in the Orient a long time. Rumor is that I as drafted and disappeared, and I still have not recovered. It's nice, though, to remember people and not be forgotten. My best friend in Ocala, Roger D., said over the phone to me that he hasn't seen me in about 50 years. s, and this just about threw me completely off balance. My wild escapades into the National Forest had made me to relax quite a bit. I was glad to see a Marine Corps poster saying, "The Marine Corps Builds Men." This made me feel proud to dive in head first, like I usually do things. There were several other slogans the Corps used, such as "The Strong, Silent Team," so I don't go around flaunting myself. Yet still, I'm not ashamed of anything I did for my country, and if anybody out there is in doubt about the outcome of Vietnam, we did not lose the war, it was a cease-fire agreement between both sides. I am happy and proud of the late President Nixon. He may have been impeached, but hey, he ended that Vietnam war that was tearing America apart from the inside.
