Virginia's Story
Life
Well, for those who remember me, I left Victorville for Tennessee when we graduated from VVJHS. I have lived in the Chattanooga/north Georgia area ever since, until I moved to western England in September of 2005. I graduated with a BA in English (minor in Spanish--Miss Dirlam would be proud). I joined the staff of Campus Crusade for Christ after college, where I met my husband. We moved to Chattanooga, had two children (one handicapped), and were married 34 years before we divorced. I've supported three graduate students from Ukraine through to their MBAs, and I'm taking writing classes.
One of the other "for fun" things I have done for the past couple of years is play Star Wars Galaxies on the internet, lol. I have been several races, including a Wookiee, a Bothan, and a bunch of Twi'lek characters :). In fact, Mos Eisley cantina on Tatooine is where I met my present husband, funny as it sounds (he is actually from England). There is a lot to be said for internet relationships :D We got to know each other on the inside before we ever laid eyes on one another. We already KNEW we were soulmates before we ever met in person. I must say, marriage the second time around has been what I dreamed of when I walked down the aisle the first time.
I had to go to a galaxy far, far away--and then move to England--to find him, but the trip was worth it!
School
I started at Irwin ...Expand for more
Elementary in second grade when we moved to California from Ohio. Mrs. Hernandez was my first and favorite teacher. When Del Rey was built, I moved there with a bunch of classmates, and from there went to VVJHS.
I moved to TN between 8th & 9th grade, and I was skipped a grade when I started at Sale Creek School. Talk about culture shock! I was a fish out of water with older kids who did everything different from the way I knew.
After a year I transferred to Soddy-Daisy HS, where I finished my last two years.
I attended Bryan College, where I majored in English (my high school teacher, Mrs. Bond, and my college dept. head, Dr. Cornelius, were most influential there) and minored in Bible, Education, and Spanish (thanks, Miss Dirlam).
The "extra" things I enjoyed most at every level were music and drama. I did well at school, but I did not devote myself to all A's--too many other things to do!
College
I attended Bryan College, a small liberal arts school in Dayton, Tennessee, where I majored in English. My major professor there was the one who motivated me to examine writing, which I am doing, now that my family responsibilities have decreased.
I think college was one of the happiest times of my life. I made and enjoyed lifelong friendships, and I loved the extra activities like drama and music. I loved the cultural exposure I received there. Most of all, I grew spiritually.
