Tracy's Story

Life I left the QCs July 1979 and moved to Houston. The timing couldn't have been worse - the boom was about to go bust. But things eventually worked out. I have a good job, got rid of my spouse, bought a house and made some friends that are closer than my blood relatives. My two cats and I live together in a house that I have been fixing up over the past 13 years. I've put in new kitchen and entry floors, stripped and refinished all of the cabinets and the front door. I replaced the back door after woodgraining it so the ugly steel would look like walnut and have done some fixing up in both bathr...Expand for more
ooms. Those jobs entailed plumbing, electrical, drywall and hanging wallpaper. I've also done tile work and have replaced all 1970s ugly builder grade woodwork with something more impressive. My neighbors are lining up asking if they can borrow my power miter saw. I work for an HMO (no, they are not always the bad guys and they pay me enough to cover the morgtage). Houston has been good to me which is why I've been here for over 20 years, but the climate is not my cup of tea - heat, humidity and hurricanes (especially after Rita & Katrina) don't thrill me. But it's home - at least for now!
