Thomas's Story
Life
Serendipity rules. Wrote a statistics program in '81 which led to working briefly with women's Olympic volleyball program & as a consultant to the NCAA Volleyball committee, then as an assistant coach at U_Ky & U_Fla. Married; best friend/beach dbls partner/wife Karen was a GM exec. Her maiden name was Welch—we squished Caswell & Welch together to get Caswelch. Fun fact: there doesn’t seem to be a male version of ‘maiden name’. Two kids; daughter ('93), son ('96). Was MrMom for 5 yrs when they were young. Eye-opening, life-changing experience, to say the least. Our family lived in tropical Singapore from '97-'01, loving life & seeing the world. The kids attended an international school along with children from 42 different countries. Co-founded (in '99) an internet startup called eAngelz.com that was a B2B portal for online businesses and hosted networking events for dotcoms in a network of cities across Asia. Karen's job moved us back to the US in '01 to Indianapolis. 20+...Expand for more
years later, still reverse culture shocking from the move, missing my tropical paradise. Crazy Rich Asians did not exaggerate.
Flash forward. Won a bronze medal (volleyball) at Senior National games in Houston. Karen retired from GM in 2010 & has been spending her 2nd childhood guiding tech startups through phase 2 growth. I retired from 10+ yrs as HS coach (Volleyball & Golf) and middle school Concierge at the International School of Indiana. We sold the big house in Indy and have since lived in San Francisco, Las Vegas, Middleton (WI), Vegas again, and now Irvine, CA working together in a robotics startup where I am learning waaay more than I ever expected to know about 3D print farms & she has a credible plan to bring economic growth back into hard hit, neglected neighborhoods. Our son has joined us as a designer after spending a post-grad yr in China. Our daughter is starting grad school in Boston & will be singing with the New York Philharmonic in December. Life is not boring.
