Sascha's Story

Life Well another season is in the books. We got bumped from the playoffs in the first round but like the last 16 years I enjoyed every minute on the field. After graduation in Hightstown (and being infiltrated with the baseball virus thanks to Mike, John jr., John sr. and the Contiliano´s)I went back to Germany, back to school. Started playing baseball at the local team. After one year my dad got transfered to his companies headquaters in Houston. My hole family moved. Went to Bellaire High there, got my international diploma and intruduced everybody to German craziness there.(Karen, Jason, Raymond, Jürgen, Andrea, Jens, Megan and Marshall took the brunt) Then i got accepted to UH (Cougars rock) majored in business administration and "foreign affairs" (Caroline and Jorge: international student advising will never be the same), otherwise the same procedure as before (I can´t change as Michael, Jonry and Pierre and everybody at UH Soccer knows). In 1991 we went back to Germany. I went to the University of Hannover as a junior (Germany´s UH just without a Heisman trophy winner!). I finished my studies in BA there and, who would have guessed, played baseball again. But for good measure I also started to play football. Yeah american style. Upon my graduation I tried my personel imitation of neon deion and played two years of pro football and baseball. Outside linebacker (put some beef on and went all the way up to 225) and after being all over the field and every position setteled for 3b/p in baseball. The last 12 years I just played base...Expand for more
ball where I had more success. Besides a torn achilles tendon 4 years ago I have been blessed to avoid major injuries, which gives me a chance to go on playing as long as I still have the desire. Even now I can´t see anything better than a great day at the field. Before this season I thought about retiring but I realized that without the pitcher/batter confrontation, the grace of the game and the feeling and the smell of the grass and dirt I would feel empty. Luckly I´m still able to be a contributing factor for my team. At the moment i`m with my fifth team, but this might change during this winter since I enjoy free agent status. Fortunatly I already know that some teams have a strong interest. Maybe I can add to my 5 division winners and my lone national championship. At the end of this year (beginning of november) there will be the world championships for baseball national teams in Taiwan, which Germany also qualified for. I have been on and off the team during the past years and still have an outside shot, but I personally would rather support sending younger players. My younger brother Dennis also plays baseball professional, so i did my share and passed the virus on. I also opened my own bar here a couple years ago (i must have watched "Cheers" to many times while being in the states). So much for me. I hope I will see everybody from Hightstown and Bellaire some time soon. A lot of people (friends and teacher) provided me with great memories at both places and they made my stay abroad in the U.S a great one. I owe you a lot. Sascha
