Rich's Story

I worked and wandered and found a lot of trouble the second half of the 70s. In 83 I started working for a concrete cutting/drilling co. It was fun and interesting, and I worked for several companies until Black Friday 2008. I was having back problems from the heavy work. I had my first of many surgeries in January, 2001. By 2008 I hurt my back really bad the day after Thanksgiving. My legs are very weak from the nerve damage, and I am now permanently disabled. I got married in 2007 for the first (and only) time at age 50 to a girl named Doreen, but I call her "Lucy". I have three beautiful step daughters, a grandson, and a granddaughter. All my step daughters have similar names, so I gave my wife and them all "numbers" when we got married. My wife is #1 PIMA,(Pain In My Ass). And then there's #s 2, 3 and 4. They like their nicknames,😜. In January 2014 my wife and I moved to Ocean View, Delaware. Someplace close to the beach and boardwalk, and still close to my step daughters. I really started getting into photography down here because it's so beautiful, and also my right arm now has nerve damage, so I can't really draw or paint anymore even if I wanted to. I started selling some of my prints at the Bethany Beach Art House, but not really much of anything happened with that. So my hobbies down here are Photography, my stereo system, and my home theater system. Back in the 80s I really got into cycling. Not just Putts-ing around the park, sightseeing, but really riding to cover a little distance. Maybe 30, 40 miles or so in an afternoon. Now that my legs are "shot", I can't ride my road bike anymore. I have several bikes now, but I mostly ride my old-man's, beach-Chillin bike...Expand for more
now. I can still cover some distance, but it takes me a little longer now. Good legs, or bad- this is the place to own and ride bikes! It's really beautiful down here! We live two miles from Bethany Beach, and eight miles from Ocean City, Maryland. Except for my "dead legs" things are pretty much okay. 👍🏾 The reason we picked this lot to build our house on is it backs up to the woods, and we were hoping to have some animals around. Well besides the usual birds and squirrels, we got some really COLORFUL birds, rabbits, racoons, deer, foxes, and fox pups every spring-time. The pups come around during the day time a lot looking for food by the bird feeders. As they get older they become more weary of people. It was really hard for me to go from working 60-70hrs a week to being disabled and retired nine years ago. From a crazy workaholic to chillin and taking pictures of animals and sunsets. I guess I'm supposed to be that smiling old man who sits and stares out the window doing nothing . . . . . nahhhh, the hell with that! 😜😆 Okay, it’s February 2019, and June of last year my health took a big step backwards. One of my vertebrae in my back shifted and completely choked off my spinal cord. By the end of July I was paralyzed from the chest down. After many tests, and two emergency surgeries to bolt me back together again I’m getting back on my feet again, moving around much better. Since I was trapped inside for months I started drawing again, and I really started getting into it. I haven’t drawn any serious pics since I became a concrete cutter/driller back in 83. We’ll, I guess I have a new hobby now, but what I really wanna do is get myself back on my bicycle and go riding.
