Linda's Story
School
My biggest crush was Timmy Septak (I think that was his first name). The teacher that inspired me was my Math/Algebra teacher, Ms. ? (for the life of me her name escapes me). She was a single, hip lady and I ran into her a few years later at the Hilton (she was a bit embarrassed, I thought it was cool). My best friend Diane (Dinky)Mundras is what I still have very fond memories of, even if they are fading lately.
Overall, no truly funny crazy moments from my Freshman year at HHS. I don't think I spent enough time there to really get very close to too many people.
Workplace
1st job at 14 was Tiger's Deli, waiting on Dale while he came in all the time to get his Grandma's lottery tickets!! I then progressed to Burger King when they opened, oh the joys of being a cashier. Then onto Mandy Shops as the Assistant Sportswear Manager.
Once I finished Nursing School I actually worked in the business field. My daughter was too young and it was impossible to find childcare for night and evening hospital shifts. I preferred the day ...Expand for more
hours of companies over the hospitals and low pay for an LPN. It was a great experience and I learned so much about many different types of companies and products.
Eventually, when I obtained my RN and did work in hospitals, the kids were older and the shift pay was much better than 10 years earlier. I worked my up the ladder clinically and then went into Managed Care (insurance/hmo) and had my first "cube". After several years experience in that area, I took my first Management spot and had an office in a hospital (a converted patient room on the med-surg floor with a private bathroom and TV. My staff always teased me about the TV and said I watched it all day long.......NOT! Truth is I was very seldomly in my office as I had meeting after meeting after meeting.
In the last 6 years I have held positions where I do have my own office and secretary. I never honestly thought I would be too satisfied in an office role but, it pays quite well and I actually enjoy what I do (it;s the others that drive me insane:).
That's all for now.
