Karen's Story
After I graduated from Kingswood, I attended Midway College in Kentucky for two years. I rode on their intercollegiate equestrian team and competed at nationals. In 1992 I graduated with a degree in Equine Management.
I took a year off and worked at two Thoroughbred farms in the Lexington area. Lanark Farm was owned by Ted Basset the president of Keeneland Racetrack and the Breeder's Cup. His wife Lucy ran the farm and we prepped yearlings which were sold through Keeneland to begin their racing careers in America and Europe. Chestnut Hill farm also prepped yearlings for the sales but ...Expand for more
we also took in horses for rehabilitation before they could return to racing. I rode some of their two year olds and worked with the very young foals.
In 1994 I went back to school to work on my Bachelor's degree in Forestry. Earning this degree allowed me to then pursue a masters degree in Education which I am currently studying for. Eventually, I would like to obtain a doctorate and teach or manage at that level. I am passionate about education and feel that it is the key to opening many doors in a young person's life. Ongoing education keeps us relevant in a quickly changing world.
