Jacqueline Perkins Zaborowski:

CLASS OF 1974
Warren, OH

Jacqueline Perkins's Story

This is what I have been doing since graduating from Harding. First, I went to Slippery Rock State College and got my degree in Special Education and taught for two years in Greenbrier County West , VA. Most importantly, I have been married to the same guy for 29 years this July. He is a Colonel of Marines currently serving in Afghanistan. He, our two children and I have lived all over Virginia( a total of 16 years), California (4 years and counting), Okinawa, Japan (3 years), North Carolina (2 years), and New Orleans for 3 years, including the year Katrina hit. It has been an interesting life that no one would believe unless you've done it. I have met people I would never have met if I'd have stayed in Warren. I have had the experience of traveling to Thiland and Tokyo and I have had the terror of almost losing everything I own to floodwaters of Katrina and to the wildfires of Southern California last fall when the brush fires came within 15 feet of my back door. Then of course I get to see very young men and women put on busses bound for war and I get to see them come back. I get to hear their stories of what good they did while they were in Iraq or Afghanista...Expand for more
n. The Marines tell of the kids they helped and the games they played with the townspeople and the hopitals they helped build or the houses and all the things that don't make the evening news and it is so great. This is just some of the stuff I've done in my last 35 years since leaving Warren and marrying a Marine. It has been great. I don't know what I would have done if I'd have stayed in Warren. I do admit I sometimes hate the time away from Frank, but he really isn't gone that often, we've been lucky. But, I am so proud of his service and his choice to continue serving for 28 years so far. I hate to think he has to retire in two more. Our children are grown and on their own. Stephen is a Student Affairs Advisor at a boarding school for gifted and talented students in Lousiana after graduating from Penn State and Sarah graduated from Slippery Rock with a Dance major, married a West Point Grad/ Army 2nd Lt and is taching dance in Germany where they are stationed. The torch is passed. And to think, someone in our class once said I wouldn't be able to handle being a military wife. I've done it and I think I've done it well and I've started the next generation!
