Gigi's Story
After graduating from KRHS in 1967, I attended Chandler School for Women in Boston for two years. The best years of my life! I then secured a job at New England Life Insurance Company until August 1973, when I decided to just quit my job and drive cross country with a fellow worker. It was quite an experience. In October, I decided not to return to Boston, but to fly to Florida from San Francisco and start over there. My parents had retired to Clearwater so I moved in with them till I had found a job and an apartment. I went to work for Pinellas County Government in Nov 1973 and retired after 30 years in 2003. n very civic-minded throughout the years, serving on a multitude of advisory boards, and decided to run for Commissioner in the city I live in, Largo, and was elected to office in 2006, defeating a woman who had been in office for 23 years. That same year, Largo voters also elected their first woman Mayor, who defeated a gentleman who had been in office over 30 years and our first African American Commissioner. These three years in office have been an experience for me. By June of 2009, I must make a decision on whether to run for re-election for another 3 year term.
My Dad passed away in 1996 after a brief battle with cancer; Mom died in February 2008. While living in Wolfeboro, they owned the Wool Corner, next door to Black's Gift Shop.
