CLASS OF 1996

Franklyn's Story

When i graduated in September of 1996 after summer school. I joined the Marines and became an Air Traffic Controller. Studied in Pensacola Naval Air Station then was stationed in Quantico VA. After realizing that military life was not for me, I left the military in 2000. Air Traffic Controlling wasn't for me either, too much stress and not enough time for anything i like to do. So i went to Stock market. Studied for series 7 & 63 did well but didnt like the hours or the atmosphere. So i thought it was just the market and tried the currency market(was a boiler room), then became a mortgage loan officer (will never work for a small bank again), Insurance agent ( just boring), then i moved to PA to look after my grandparents when my uncle died. Worked in a warehouse packing and shipping farm equipment, great work no stress but no pay either, became the greivance clerk then i quit and started working as a dispatcher for an oil tank manufacturer. was a great no stress job but didnt pay anything either so i also worked at blockbuster. Then after sacrificing my time for my grandparents (3 yrs later) I decided to persue a dream of mine and got accepted to Divers Academy Intl, graduated second in my class and now im pondering where in the world i would like to live. Went through 3 seriously long relationships that led me to have no kids and to not get married. Im seriously thinking of moving to Louisiana and working in the gulf or maybe even staying in this area New York and work in the hudson. I've met alot of different people and learned alot of different things. My goal is to start a resort somewhere tropical where i can live out the rest of my days in the sun and paradise. I plan on reaching that goal within the next 10 years. I expected to be m...Expand for more
arried with kids by now, or at least some baby mamas. but it turned out i have alot more self control than i thought i had. If i could do it all over i would've became a diver right out of high school. The weirdest job i ever had was a part-time job when i was studying for my series 7 & 63 license, I worked room service for Tribeca Grand Hotel in the city. Alot of rich people with peculiar tastes, and i had to wear a tight shirt that showed my muscles. Great tips but i would never wear another tight shirt again. Met some celebrities there also. It's been 4yrs since I graduated from dive school. It took 6 months to find a job, had to move to va beach, but I landed a job with the best inland company in us. Seaward marine svce inc.. It took me 9mths to get hired from a temp position ,which usually takes no less than three years on avg to do. I've been learning all aspects of the business purchased my first dive helmet and I'm goin to train in maintaining and repairing them for the company. I've become a very valuable asset to the company and the only minority that is not a temp. It is an ongoing battle to learn and progress, but I went from making 25k to 98k in four years, and five month school. Yes I risk my life every time I put the helmet on and enter the water but I help the navy and power plants and provide a valuable irreplaceable service to both. I'm proud to be a diver, and there are so many areas I can help from tunnel and bridge inspection to maintaining our navy's fleet while they are still in water helping them get back to the good fight faster and safer. I had to get nuclear clearance but I had secret clearance in marines so there are things I do I cannot say. I'm so proud to be an American, and look forward to a brighter future.
