Darlene's Story
Girl marries high school sweetheart (1968) and begins the Navy wife life. We had a daughter (1969). Girl realizes high school romances don't always turn out to be true love and moves on.(1977)
I remarried in 1977 to a career AF (great) guy and continued to live the "nomad life". Decided not too long after that I had to "do" something with my life and went to college. Graduated in 1981 and we moved to Alaska. Spent 17 years there working in the health care field as medical record administrator. My husband's job (engineer for AT&T)took us to Atlanta, GA in 1997 where we lived for 3 years before moving to Prescott, AZ. When 9/11 hit, his telecommunications job was impacted and he was given the "golden parachute". Through a series of circumstances we became involved in politics and eventually I became a campaign staffer for Congress...Expand for more
man Rick Renzi's 2004 election and my husband was on his congressional staff. Last year I ran for Prescott Valley town council and lost by 147 votes -proving once more that its the journey and not the destination. Currently I serve on the town's Personnel Board, am 1st Vice Chair for Yavapai County Republican Committee, treasurer of Prescott Valley Soroptimist club, Treasurer of the West Yavapai Guidance Clinic Foundation Board and serve on the PV Historical Society board. Last but not least, campaign treasurer for Andy Tobin our LD1 state house rep. I can not raise my hand any more or I will be in BIG trouble.... Until next year 2011 when I try another run for PV town counsel. That's my life in a nutshell and its a great life - Prescott/Prescott valley, AZ is an awesome place to live and I have a lot of places to compare it to.
