Brenda's Story

Life I am living in sunny Arizona. I have a great career, a wonderful husband, and a modest 2000 square foot home on the twelveth tee of a private golf course, my health, and no worries. Fitness plays a major role in my life. I spend time training for cycling tours, running events, or I'm at the gym lifting weights. I also enjoy playing golf. My best round of 18 holes is 104 -- I am so close to breaking 100. A long-term fitness goal of mine is Iron Man Arizona. My career has been fruitful and I have created great opportunities for myself over the years. I really enjoy my profession and cannot imagine doing anything else. No kids yet -- still on the fence. Tick-tock, tick-tock… We just purchased two houses in my hometown of upstate New York. One is a two-family and the other is a three-family. Gulp! We've been looking to invest and the opportunity presented itself during a recent trip home to visit my Mom. For those of you that know her, she's doing well. I wish all of you the best and hope to hear from you sometime. Warmest Regards, Brenda Huff a.k.a. Cook School I spent most of my high school years partying with the Claus clan, which contributed to most of my funniest, happiest, and craziest school memories. Though the partying continued post high school, I realized that my "late-night" lifestyle was not going to get me very far in life. Hence, I made some drastic changes and rest is history. College Here is a fun story. I rode the dot.com boom, and by doing so I have lived in many places such as Dallas, TX, New Orleans, LA, Washington DC, San Jose, CA, and Mesa, AZ. As a result, I have attended many colleges. On a side note, New Orleans by far is my favorite place and I would go back in a New York minute. After high school, personally and professionally I got off to rough start; I will not bore you with the details. When I realized I was going nowhere fast, I made a decision that would change my life for the better. I decided to pursue a career in Information Technology with no experience and without a college education. In less than five years through hard work, self-study, and industry certifications I quickly climbed the corporate ladder; making over six figures a year. All the while, taking college courses as often as possible. Following the dot.com boom in late 2001 (after 911), Jerry and I moved to Arizona to settle down. Finding a j...Expand for more
ob in my field as a Project Manager was more difficult than I had anticipated. I took the opportunity to take a 9-day 'real estate' boot camp so I could get my license as an Arizona Realtor. I also worked as a bookkeeper for a local business in Scottsdale. And, was quite humbled by the entire experience. Through adversity, I persevered once again finding a job as Project Manager for a consulting firm working with American Express and IBM. I thoroughly enjoyed my 2.5-year stint, but as a contractor you make more money to offset not receiving any benefits. So, my search began again in October 2005 to find a company that I could grow with while completing my college education. Perot Systems has been and still is one of the best companies that I have had the pleasure working for. I have the full package from great benefits and compensation to the ability to work from home twice a week. I look forward to spending many more years at Perot and will continue to push myself to do my best and more than is expected. This company has afforded me the ability to finish what I started. I am going to Arizona State University (ASU) part-time in the evenings while maintaining a 4.0 GPA. I will graduate in 1.5 years with a Bachelor’s degree in Business and Communication. Yet, I am not stopping there, I will continue on for another two years so that I can get my MBA with a concentration in Supply Chain Management (SCM). SCM and Project Management compliment each other nicely and will serve me well when pursuing executive level roles. We will not talk about how old I will be when I have my MBA, but who cares! Long story, short, I took a chance by putting the “cart before the horse” and it paid off! My accomplishments are a good testament for those that did not pursue a college education. As I am living proof that a career can be built on perseverance, drive, and industry experience. On a final note, you are NEVER too old to go to college. --Brenda Workplace Currently, a Senior Project Manager for Perot Systems (Ross Perot's company) in Phoenix, Arizona. I have been a Project Manager for ten, going on eleven years now. I really enjoy the profession and cannot imagine doing anything else. Previously, I have worked with IBM, American Express, Adobe Systems, National Security Agency, US Navy, and Entergy Utility Company. I got my start at Citizens Communications in Johnstown, NY.
